According to The DisInsider, one of its sources has shared that Walt Disney Studios is getting ready to begin production on the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie at a Hollywood sound stage. While there is no timeline for when production might officially begin (it’s likely a ways off since no director or cast has been announced yet), DisInsider added that Johnny Depp is expected to return as Captain Jack Sparrow. However, since the site was unable to get a second source to verify the first, the aforementioned rumor should be treated with a grain of salt until officially confirmed or debunked.

Pirates of the Caribbean remains one of Disney’s most successful film franchises, with all installments grossing over $650 million worldwide. The studio has been trying unsuccessfully to make a sixth Pirates movie since 2011. Development came to a grinding halt in the early 2020s when Disney fired Depp from the franchise due to abuse allegations from his ex-wife Amber Heard. However, after being cleared of wrongdoing following a highly publicized trial, Disney is reportedly interested in mending its relationship with Depp.
There Are 2 Scripts for Pirates of the Caribbean 6
In December 2024, Variety reported that Disney’s live-action film division was interested in getting another Pirates movie into production. While it was stated that Disney had not yet reached out to Depp about returning as Captain Jack Sparrow, “nothing has been ruled out.” Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer previously stated that there are two scripts for Pirates 6, with one featuring Depp. “Jeff Nathanson is working on a script. We have another one…We have two, and we don’t know who’s gonna win the horse race at this point. But hopefully in the next month, I’ll have a script, and maybe Disney will want to make it,” he shared in June 2024.
